Recently I was at the National Speakers Association of Australia (NSAA) national conference. It was truly the best NSAA conference I have been to in 20 years and I had a great time catching up with all of my speaking buddies.
Dr Stephanie Burns was there filling us all in and what she had been doing since last time we saw her. She is an amazing educator who taught me over 19 years ago and as a raving fan of her work, I still mention her material and techniques in my presentations today.
Now days I sometimes catch up with past students of mine out there still using the material that I was able to pass on to them over 15 years ago.
Now here is my point, some people actually remember what you said to them many many years ago. They remember because you were passionate about your message and because you were truly being you. You were solidly connected to your passion at the time and offering up pearls of wisdom that had them take action and change their lives.
So my question to you is this, how do you teach people stuff, and I mean real meaty chunky get your teeth into stuff that lasts over 15 years and have them remember it and what you said and how much it impacted them.
My answer is simple and yet at times very difficult to maintain.
Stay on track and focused to your passion. No matter what financial hurdles and family upsets you encounter, stay on track with your passion.
That’s right, and I didn’t say it was going to be easy now did I.
The NSAA conference reminded me that I have seen a lot of people come and go and yet those who remain are truly connected and passionate about what they do.
There is nothing better for me than to sit in at a conference 19 years after the event and hear my teacher fill me in on the huge gap, tell me what she is doing now and next in her world of education.
I know I need it and I’m sure you do to. A reminder of the lives we have changed and that the world is a better place because you took the courageous path to follow your passion.
What ever you do, please find the courage to follow your mission and purpose with passion and vitality.
If you feel like you are falling off the rails, call me and I’ll pick you up, write to me and I’ll write back or talk to me next time we meet and I will listen.
Regards
Jennifer Elliott
